Congratulations to Geoff Strempel, Director State Library of South Australia, who was presented with the HCL Anderson Award at the recent annual Australian Library and Information Association dinner.
The HCL Anderson Award is the Association’s highest honour that can be given to an Associate member. This award recognises outstanding service to the library and information sector within Australia and to the profession.
Geoff has made an outstanding contribution to both the national and local library and information sector over many years. As Director of the State Library of South Australia he set an optimistic and confident long-term vision for where the Library needed to head in a fast-changing world.
Before becoming the State Library Director, Geoff managed the Public Library Services for 10 years, leading significant change in the state’s public library network. This included the establishment of the One Card Network, an initiative that required the cooperation of local councils to connect the systems of over 130 libraries across the state.
Geoff has been an active member of National and State Libraries of Australasia and has generously given his time and expertise to numerous national advisory boards and committees.
Upon receiving his award, Geoff said:
“I have loved every role I have had working in libraries over decades and have been pleased to work with colleagues locally and nationally to contribute to the strength of the library sector. To be recognised by my peers through this award is an unexpected and treasured bonus.”
Congratulations to Geoff on this incredible achievement, a worthy recipient.
