The State Library of South Australia is the largest public research library and the digital preservation system in the state, and among the most iconic cultural institutions in South Australia.

Located on North Terrace, we welcome over 550,000 visitors a year and play a significant role in collecting, preserving and making accessible the State’s history for current and future generations to enjoy, experience and learn from.

We are home to many powerful and impactful South Australian stories - providing access to a collection for those who visit the library and for those who use it online. We are a rich source of information – it gathers, protects and shares the documented history of South Australia, helping us to remember the past, connect with each other and discover.

Donate to our collections

We encourage members of the community, organisations, and businesses to consider donating material for appraisal, especially South Australiana, to increase the depth and range of the library's collections.
