Explore the history of Adelaide pubs that were once vibrant, bustling places but are now silent witnesses to the past.
Known as the city of churches, Adelaide has also been described as the city of pubs. We'll tell tales of hotels that no longer echo with the sound of bar chatter and clinking glasses, no longer emit the smell of stale beer and cigarette smoke, and are no longer run by bar staff with a raised eyebrow.
Most of these buildings have been demolished, but others survive - although they have been put to other, more sober, uses.
This presentation was recorded as part of the State Library's Stories from the Stacks talks on 21 May 2024.
