Sher Rill Ng is an award-winning illustrator from Victoria, renowned for her beautifully crafted artwork and imaginative storytelling. In April 2025, she will be honored with the May Gibbs Children's Literature Trust Fellowship. Sher Rill's creative journey began at the age of 9 when she taught herself to draw, bringing to life new characters inspired by her love for animated films, books, and movies.
Her debut author-illustrated picture book, Our Little Inventor (2019), tells the heartwarming story of Nell, a brilliant young girl with a dream to make the world a better place through her inventive spirit
Sher Rill Ng designed and illustrated for SaaS companies before releasing her first author-illustrated picture book Our Little Inventor in 2019. In 2022, Our Little Inventor was adapted into a children’s opera, composed by Emma Jayakumar and presented by the West Australian Opera. Her work includes middle grade book covers for The Twelve by Cindy Lin, The Rogues by Lian Tanner and Winnie Zeng Unleashes a Legend by Katie Zhao.
Most recently Sher Rill has illustrated Be Careful, Xiao Xin! written by Alice Pung, for which she was awarded the 2024 IBBY Australia Ena Noël Award for Illustration, and Millie Mak the Maker, which was shortlisted for the 2024 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Children’s Literature.
How do I get to the State Library by public transport?
The 'State Library, Art Gallery, Museum' tram-stop is just outside the State Library. There are bus stops close by, near the War Memorial on North Terrace. The closest train station is the Adelaide city station on North Terrace.

Is there car parking near the State Library?
The nearest car park is Wilson's Adelaide Central car park, 225 North Terrace, next to David Jones.
There is paid (metered) street parking along Kintore Ave and Victoria Drive.
Where is the wheelchair and stroller access?
Access to the Spence Wing first floor and the Mortlock Chamber is via the lift in the glass foyer entrance of the library.

How do I check if the Mortlock Chamber is open when I plan to visit?
The Mortlock Chamber may close for private events, check our opening hours for any closure times.
When it is open you can visit the Mortlock Chamber on the ground floor to look at the exhibition bays. The upper levels of the Mortlock Wing include quiet study areas.
Is there a cafe at the State Library?
Yes, the State Library Cafe is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm and Saturdays from 12 to 4pm.
