New procedures for State Library membership
Improving the security and privacy of customer passwords is important to the State Library, so we are introducing some new requirements for your library membership.
I'm an Existing state library MEMBER
New security measures mean that existing State Library members need to reset their password.
Passwords are case sensitive and must contain:
- 8 - 30 characters
- one UPPERCASE letter
- one lowercase letter
- at least one number
- a special character.

i'm not a member of the State Library
Membership is free and registration is easy.
Register to become a member of the State Library
- South Australian residents can become a State Library member to access eResources, digital newspapers and request items. We’ll create a digital membership for you straight away. All you need is a valid email address. You can also visit us to collect a physical library card to access even more onsite services and facilities.
- Interstate residents can register for membership and when you arrive in South Australia, you can visit the State Library to collect your library card.
