The State Library buzzed with excitement on Indigenous Literacy Day, Wednesday, 4 September, as eager book lovers explored our pop-up bookstall.

We are very happy to announce that the total amount raised from our Great Book Swap was $1900, exceeding last year's total.

Indigenous child having a book read to them

A big thank you to all those people who visited the Library and swapped a book for a monetary donation. Your kindness and generosity will truly make a difference to children and families living in remote Australian communities.

Staff and volunteers of the State Library kindly donated the books. We had a great response to our call out and offer our sincere thanks for their kind donations and support.

Access to books in remote communities is challenging, as there are often no libraries or bookstores. The efforts of all those involved on the day will actively help the Indigenous Literacy Foundation gift new, culturally relevant books to children in remote communities across the country.

Thanks to your support, more children will now have access to the joy of reading, and the power of stories that reflect their culture and experiences.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year.
